Thomas Schmitt | ArianeGroup (Germany)
Thomas Schmitt is a professional with extensive experience in engineering, program management and quality management. He is currently Head of Electric Propulsion at ArianeGroup, where he has worked since June 2022. Previously, he worked for 11 years at Collins Aerospace, where he has taken roles of increasing responsibility and finally Head of Quality & EH&S management department. During his tenure, he was responsible for managing teams of experienced design, process and quality engineers and was part of the site management team. He has also served as a chief engineer and program manager for several aircraft projects. Thomas holds a Master degree in Electrical Engineering and has been involved in the development of several international aircraft programs from proposal evaluation to product implementation.
Vanessa Vial | Safran Spacecraft Propulsion (France)
Graduated Engineer from Ecole Centrale Paris in 2001 and PhD in plasma physics from Orleans University in 2004. Vanessa holds 20 years of experience in Hall thrusters technology development.
She joined Safran in 2007. Successive positions: Hall thrusters Technical Responsible and Magnetic design authority, Project manager, Head of R&D technical team, Technical monitoring of the PPS®1350 thruster line for commercial applications. Currently Senior Program Manager in charge of Hall thruster R&D activities and PPS® developments.
Vanessa has 7 years of experience in European Commission funded programs – Coordinator of the CHEOPS I, CHEOPS Low Power, CHEOPS Medium Power, CHEOPS Very High Power-Building Blocks, INVICTUS programmes.
Juan Jesús Rico | Airbus Crisa (Spain)
Juan Jesús Rico joined Airbus Crisa (Airbus’s subsidiary in Madrid-Spain) beginning 2000, initially working as SW development Technical Manager for different programs (defence, commercial civil, and flight SW-HW integration).
In 2007, Juan Jesús Rico moved to Toulouse (France), becoming Technical Responsible for the AIVQ (Assembly, Integration, Validation, and Qualification) activities of the Ground Segment of Pleiades satellites (Earth Observation constellation).
Back to Madrid in 2012, Juan Jesús Rico worked as Project Manager for different projects in the frame of Power space equipment.
Since 2013, Juan Jesús Rico switched to commercial activities, working first as Commercial Manager for Power electronic products at Airbus Crisa, then from 2016 onwards as Key Account Manager in charge of customer relation for different countries for Airbus DS – Space Equipment.
Anja Zajc | Fraza (Slovenia)
Anja Zajc earned her Ms. D. in electrical engineering in 2012 and is currently pursuing a Ph.D. at the University of Ljubljana. Her expertise lies in switching technologies and power magnetics, with notable roles in the GLBC in 2015, the Laboratory of Control Engineering and Power Electronics at the University of Ljubljana in 2017 and 2018 (focusing on e-vehicle drives), and the Laboratory of Biocybernetics at the University of Ljubljana from 2019 to 2021 (working on gene therapy for cancer treatment).

GIESEPP MP

The goal of the consortium is to deliver a tested and validated product that customers can buy off the shelf but at the same time can easily be adapted to individual needs.
DEEP PPU
Horizon Europe project, grant agreement No 101082685.
The DEEP-PPU consortium will develop a disruptive Power Processing Unit for medium and high-power GIT. The project is a natural continuation of GIESEPP-MP, where a first step has been taken to develop a power supply for the screen grid and integrate it within the current PPU design for ArianeGroup RIT-2X thruster.
CHEOPS VHP BB
Horizon Europe project, grant agreement No 101082532.
The main objective of this project is to design, develop and test overall system architecture against these various mission use cases. The project CHEOPS VHP BB complements ongoing thruster-focused development activities with research and development on the future use of very high-power Hall thruster systems.
